This seminar from the MEF brings a new local and global perspective on the world’ most successful network service deployment over the last decade: Carrier Ethernet. It features an in depth look at Carrier Ethernet 2.0 (CE 2.0) services, wholesale Access services, service management and operations, and its applications in the context of SDN, Cloud and Mobile Backhaul optimization. Finally, it features the latest on the MEF’s new “Third Network” vision.

MEF Carrier Ethernet Report: This session will provide an industry update on Ethernet Services and the impact of migration to CE 2.0 services worldwide.
 
Kevin Vachon (Chief Operating Officer, MEF)
Appointed as MEF COO in 2006, Kevin leads a team that build, support and scale the MEF’s ever-increasing mix of global programs activities. With a key objective of globalizing Carrier Ethernet and MEF standards, Kevin directs efforts to expand CE awareness, membership and program activities particularly into emerging markets. He is a frequent speaker at conferences, a senior MEF representative to the press and analyst community and oversees MEF liaison relationships with other associations and standards organizations.
During his tenure, membership has tripled to over 215 companies, representing 43 countries, with Service Provider membership increasing eight fold. New member committees have been formed and MEF’s Marketing, Certification programs have been substantially expanded. The CloudEthernet Forum has recently been established within MEF’s legal framework.
Kevin held the position of CEO of DIATEM Networks Inc., a Carrier Ethernet software company from 2003 to 2005 and was Chairman, President and CEO of NUVO Network Management, a network management outsourcing firm, from 1996 to 2002. Previously, he held other senior management positions with NUVO and spent 10 years in a wide variety of capacities with Gandalf Technologies, a network equipment vendor.
 
 
 
Carrier Ethernet 2.0 Overview: This session looks at the attributes and services of CE 2.0 that enables and distinguishes the Ethernet Business services from LAN based Ethernet. It also highlights the applications enabled by CE 2.0, the benefits to end-users, retail and wholesale service providers.

 

Isabelle Morency (Vice President, Engineering, Veryx Technologies Inc.)

Isabelle has over 15 years of experience in the telecommunications industry. As a leading contributor to the MEF Carrier Ethernet 2.0 initiative she edited the CE 2.0 Technical Foundation Document, Certification Blueprint and the Test Plans for Services Attributes and Traffic Management currently being used in CE 2.0 equipment and services certifications. In addition to her work in CE 2.0, she also edited seven MEF Technical Specification. Prior to joining Veryx as Vice President of Engineering, Isabelle was Chief Academic Officer at the Carrier Ethernet Academy and has held strategic engineering positions with Iometrix and Teleglobe International (acquired by TATA Communications). Isabelle holds a bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering and postgraduate studies in Business and Administration from University Laval in Canada.

 

 

 

Carrier Ethernet Certification Programs: This session covers Equipment, Services and Professional certification programs. Topics include how the CE 2.0 Equipment and Services program accelerate deployment, relationship to CE 1.0 certification, and the benefits to end users, equipment manufacturers, service providers, access providers and mobile operators. Certification of professionals via the MEF-CECP program has seen a threefold increase in the last 12 months becoming a critical element of any Carrier Ethernet initiative.

 

Larry Samberg (MEF-CECP professor, Carrier Ethernet Academy Carrier Ethernet Advisor, HFR, Inc)
Larry Samberg is an engineer, manager, and technologist with over 40 years of experience in data-communications and networking. Larry has been involved with Ethernet switching since 1987 when he founded one of the first independent Ethernet Switch developers, CrossComm Corporation. Since then he has worked in many aspects of Ethernet, Ethernet Switching, and Carrier Ethernet at both small and large companies such as Nortel and Ciena. Larry has been involved with the MEF since 2004. Currently Larry is a MEF-CECP professor for the Carrier Ethernet Academy and a Carrier Ethernet Advisor for HFR, Inc.

 

 

 

Carrier Ethernet Wholesale Services: This session brings insight into how the MEF CE 2.0 Wholesale Ethernet Access standard speeds-up and reduces the cost of interconnections and opens up new local and global business opportunities for both buying and selling service providers.
