Real-world deployment of a private 5G network in Germany [2020 - 2025]
|
Germany opened up private 5G spectrum in the 3.7-3.8 GHz range for enterprise use in November 2019, with an additional 24.25-27.5 GHz opening in January 2021.
Utilizing this industrial 5G spectrum, Germany has the most active private 5G network deployment in Europe. The number of companies that have applied to the government for and been allocated 3.7 GHz private 5G spectrum in both frequency bands has been growing linearly every year, as shown in the figure below.
In this One-Shot, we summarize the state of private 5G network deployment in Germany as of March 2025.

♦ Real-world deployment of a private 5G network in Germany
- Germany began deploying private 5G networks in 2020 and is currently the most active country in Europe for private 5G deployments. Netmanias found 49 publicly available deployments as of March 2025.
- By industry, factories/manufacturing has the highest number of deployments (18).
- Enterprises are deploying private 5G networks through both MNOs and SI operators, with MNO DT having the most deployments (13) and a number of SIs (Boldyn, Kontron, NTT Data, Panasonic Connect Europe, Cocus, Mugler, CampusDyna, Siticom, Opticoms) securing a small number of deployments.
Private 5G frequencies are dominated by 3.7 GHz (3.7-3.8 GHz) with 42 deals.
- mmWave, 26 GHz, has only one case (Ger4Tech Mechatronik). There are also five cases of 5G private networks using the public 5G frequencies of other operators.
- The majority of 5G network structures are SA (Standalone), with almost all cases being deployed on-premise.
- Among 5G vendors, Ericsson (22 cases) and Nokia (9 cases) have the most cases, with Druid, Cocus, Airspan, Kontron, Panasonic, and Cisco also performing well.
