Siticom taps Nokia, beats carriers to private 5G contract for WISTA science park in Berlin

German system integrator (SI) Siticom has secured a contract to deploy a private 5G network at the WISTA Science and Technology Park in Berlin-Adlershof in Germany. Siticom is working with Nokia on the project; it beat at least two of the three major mobile operators in Germany to the contract.

The network is being managed by Volkswagen, presumably with initial support from Nokia. “Volkswagen undertakes setup and operation of the 5G infrastructure itself in a move designed to build up competitive expertise in using this important technology of the future and ensure data security,” said a statement. It added: “Exclusive spectrum is a key enabler for 5G [in] manufacturing – interference-free, high-availability wireless transmissions require a dedicated frequency that will be used exclusively by Volkswagen for production purposes.”

Nokia to deploy 5G SA private wireless networking for KUKA, Germany

Nokia today announced that KUKA, a leading manufacturer of industrial robots and automation solutions, will deploy Nokia 5G SA private wireless networking at KUKA’s Smart Production and Development Center in Augsburg, Germany.

KUKA is planning to deploy 5G technology in its intelligent robotics and automation solutions, and the Nokia Digital Automation Cloud (DAC) campus networking and application platform will support product development with immediate effect.

Bosch is putting its first 5G campus network into operation. At its Industry 4.0 lead plant in Stuttgart-Feuerbach, the company aims to manufacture under previously unheard-of conditions, with data being transferred extremely reliably and ultra-fast, and machines reacting almost instantaneously.

For the first time, wireless implementation will be possible for critical applications that require absolute precision and safety. Without exception, people and machines will be able to cooperate safely and without barriers. “5G strengthens our competitiveness and lets us make even more of Industry 4.0’s potential,” says Dr. Michael Bolle, board of management member and CDO/CTO at Bosch. “We will gradually roll 5G out to our roughly 250 plants around the world.”

Rohde & Schwarz has installed a 5G campus network to leverage the possibilities and advantages of Industry 4.0 at its plant in Teisnach, Germany. The industrial-grade private 5G network infrastructure is based on Nokia Digital Automation Cloud (DAC). Both companies will participate in the testing of the 5G campus network using Rohde & Schwarz network testing equipment to optimize its operation and performance.
