국내 통신 3사는 2011년 LTE 서비스 출시 후, 2G/3G보다 ARPU가 높은 LTE 가입자의 증가로 전체 Mobile ARPU와 Mobile Revenue 증진의 달콤함을 몇 년간 누려 왔다. 하지만 최근 들어 Mobile 가입자수 증가의 정체, 높은 ARPU를 가져다 줬던 LTE 가입자들의 저가폰, 저가요금제로 전환으로 인해 Mobile ARPU 증가가 정체되고 Mobile Revenue가 감소하고 있다. 폰 위주의 이동통신 산업 (폰 판매, 회선이용료)의 역성장을 막아줄 새로운 서비스 창출과 BM이 절실히 요구되는 상황이다.
