SK Telecom (NYSE:SKM) today announced that it has received an award in the category of ‘vIMS Solution & Use Case of the Year’ at the IMS Industry Awards 2016 held in Amsterdam, Netherlands, on May 18.
Launched in 2010 by Informa, a global leading telecom and media research company, the IMS Industry Awards is held during the IMS World Forum and is known as the world’s most prestigious awards in the field of IMS. IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem) is the key technology used to provide IP-based multimedia services such as VoLTE over the all-IP network.
SK Telecom became the winner of the ‘vIMS Solution & Use Case of the Year’ category by rapidly and flexibly responding to increased LTE voice traffic - which occurred since interconnecting VoLTE services of the three Korean mobile operators – through the world’s first commercialization of an NFV orchestrator named T-OVEN in August 2015 and a virtualized IMS (vIMS) in September 2015.
“SK Telecom is honored to receive this award as they recognize our efforts to develop advanced network technologies and customer-oriented services,” said Park Jin-hyo, Senior Vice President and Head of Network Technology R&D Center. “We will make relentless efforts to develop many differentiated network technologies and solutions, including expanded application of virtualization technologies, to provide the best network service to our customers.”
