World’s First LTE-Railway Service on High-speed Train Goes Live in Korea, Supplied by Samsung and KT

Samsung and KT announced today that the LTE-Railway (LTE-R) network for the new Wonju-Gangneung high-speed train line is now live. The activation represents the world’s first application of LTE-R technology to a high-speed train, with the new line traveling up to 250km/hour.

Samsung Electronics announced that its LTE-Railway (LTE-R) solution successfully launched its official service today on the 41km-long Busan Metro line 1 that covers 40 stations in the region. This is nation’s first case of the LTE-R technology being used during operation of a train/metro.

Busan Subway becoming the World’s First Place to have Commercial LTE-R Set Up

Busan Transportation Corporation (BTC) has begun on setting up LTE-R in their subway. According to the business on the 26th, BTC has announced of setting up LTE-R in extension of Busan subway line (Shinpyung~Dadaepo). They will be posting request for proposal (RFP) in the early May. If early, they will select the licensee by end of May and finish setting up by August of 2016. The business scale is about 17.7 million USD.
