KT succeeds in world's first interworking demonstration including 5G network, 5G device and service
KT announced on October 27 that it succeeded in interworking a 5G device of Samsung Electronics in compliance with 'Pyeongchang 5G standard' with KT's 5G demonstration network located at the main stadium of the PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games.
In addition, KT succeeded in demonstrating the 5G service, which transmits large-capacity video by connecting the 5G pilot network of KT with the 5G terminal of Samsung Electronics in compliance with the Pyeongchang 5G standard. This is the first time a real terminal, not a test device, has been connected to a 5G network and delivered services.
The 5G terminal used in the demonstration of the 5G service is a tablet PC, and can provide basic functions provided by existing smart devices and ultra high-speed wireless data communication through 5G connection.
In addition, 5G-4G (LTE) multi-RAT interworking function is installed in this device, so users can use high-speed data communication service between 4G and 5G network.
KT has been working with Samsung Electronics to connect 5G device with 5G test network built in Pyeongchang, and has been testing the 5G R & D center and Pyeongchang 5G center for several months. The successful development of 5G commercialization technology has reached its final stage.
"The world's first 5G network in the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games, which attracts the world's attention, was made possible by Korea's technological prowess and leading investment in ICT" said KT Network Division President Oh Sung Mok.
