KT as Korea’s national telecommunications provider, has embarked on cooperating with mobile carriers in Asia on the Internet of Things (IoT).

KT announced on October 10th that KT has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for IoT with eight member companies of Conexus, the Asian alliance of mobile carriers, to jointly develop technologies and provide services at the Conexus general meeting in Vietnam.

Participants of the MOU are KT, NTT DoCoMo of Japan, Smart of the Philippines, StarHub of Singapore, Hutchison of Hong Kong along with four other companies.

With this, KT launched “IoT Project Group” which consist of experts from each company to jointly develop IoT technology, products and service, as well as business models. Toward that end, the group aims to take advantage of the member companies’ technological prowess and local networks to go beyond boundaries as to provide IoT services to the entire Asia region.

Executive Vice President of Integrated Marketing Communication Hae-Jung Park said, “Through this MOU, various IoT business models will be cooperatively created and ultimately differentiated services will be available for customers.” She added further, “There are high expectations that this MOU will greatly contribute in improving IoT technology not just for Asia but for the global market.”

Meanwhile the general assembly of Conexus, which seeks ways for countries to come together to cooperate on global projects, took place from October 6th to the 8th in Vietnam. Throughout the conference, experts explored options to enhance cooperation in the fields of roaming, media, contents as well as other related fields that could increase customer value.
