KT presents 'Transport-SDN solution' in Germany, ready for Commercialization in 1H 2016
KT announced on the 14th that it presented its new solution 'transport SDN' at the ‘SDN & OpenFlow World Congress’ held in Dusseldorf, Germany, catching visitors' eyes and receiving favorable evaluation.
The new solution applies Software Defined Network (SDN), one of the hottest next-generation networking technologies, to optic transport networks. This allows for integration, simplification and automation of the complicated transport network operation processes, which traditionally have been operated manually by region, equipment type and manufacturer. The new solution is expected to lower network operating expenses, improve business agility, and enhance network operation efficiency. The solution is scheduled to be commercialized in the first half of next year.
In the event, KT also demonstrated using the new solution to find optimal paths quickly in a network consisting of devices from different manufacturers, for the first time in the world. With this demonstration, the company was recognized as the first network operator that had the solution introduced as 'transport-SDN platform deployed in a commercial network' in a SDN solution showcase, receiving a lot of attention from operators in and outside of Korea.
Mr. Dongmyun Lee, the head of the Institute of Convergence Technology in KT, said, "KT’s transport-SDN solution gave a demonstration on commercial networks, consisting of many manufacturers’ equipment, for the first time in the world, introducing its excellent network technology to the world. Through commercialization in the first half of next year, the solution will help cut costs and improve network operation efficiency. Also, it is expected be the core technology of 5G in the future.”
