Samsung Electronics unveils “Galaxy Note 4 S-LTE,” the world‘s first three-band LTE-A smartphone
12/28/2014 | By NETMANIAS (tech@netmanias.com)

Samsung Electronics unveils “Galaxy Note 4 S-LTE,” the only smartphone in the world so far that can support three-band LTE-A service on December 28.

The new smartphone supports download speeds of up to 300 Mbps by applying the latest mobile communication technology, three-band Carrier Aggregation (20 MHz + 10 MHz + 10 MHz).

What is notable in the Galaxy Note 4 S-LTE is the fact that Samsung used its own processor and modem chip (Exynos 5433 processor with the Shannon 333 modem) in it, instead of Qualcomm chip (Snapdragon 810).

Exynos 333 is a three-band LTE-A communication modem that has been under development by Samsung since the beginning of the year.

Qualcomm and Intel also have been rushing to develop a similar product, aiming for commercialization by first half of 2015. But Samsung ultimately beat them in the race to succeed in the world‘s first commercialization of the product.

On the same day, using the Samsung handset, SK Telecom commercialized the world’s first three-band CA service.

SK Telecom provides up to 300 Mbps of service using total frequency bandwidth of 40 MHz, which comprises 20 MHz + 10 MHz + 10 MHz (1.8 GHz: 20 MHz, 800 MHz: 10 MHz, 2.1 GHz: 10 MHz).
