On the 7th, KT unveiled its new solution called ‘2pairs LAN GiGA Internet’, claimed to be capable of supporting 1Gbps for any customers with UTP cabling.
The ‘2pairs LAN GiGA Internet’ is known to improve modulation methods between Main Distribution Frame (MDF) and home, nearly doubling speeds.
The solution will enable even users without FTTH or 4-pair UTP cable to enjoy 1Gbps as well.
Currently, 39% of ultra-fast Internet subscribers in Korea are served through UTP cabling, and some of the subscribers were not able to use 1Gbps because they have 2-pair UTP cabling in their home, mostly apartment buildings.
With the new solution, the operator can still use the current network system to offer 1Gbps without the need of replacing the current UTP cable or extra installation, allowing Giga Internet infra to expand further at little or low costs.
Dr. Dongmyun Lee, head of the Institute of Convergence Technology in KT, said, “We, as the world’s first Giga Internet and GiGA Wire presenter, are now establishing a solid foothold as an IT leader in the world market.” He added, “We will continue to stay committed to developing the world’s best wired/wireless solutions as a leader in 5G era.”
The company, having successfully deploying its GiGA Wire solution in Spain and Turkey earlier this year, is now expecting the another globally deployable '2pairs LAN GiGA Internet' solution to contribute to improvement of global communication infra in near future.
