SK Telecom (NYSE:SKM) announced that it launched a new Lifeware* named Smart Band, a smart LED bracelet designed to satisfy fashion-conscious customers.
* Lifeware is a newly-coined word that combines ‘life’ and ‘hardware/software’, and refers to consumer-centric smart devices that add value to people’s lives
Smart Band is only 7.6mm thick and weighs 20.5g, making it highly convenient for users to wear around their wrists. It comes in four different colors, including white, black, blue and burgundy and is made to fit any wrist size. All features of Smart Band can be operated through a single button. For instance, users can shift menu by pressing the button once; activate the“Locate My Smartphone”feature by pressing the button longer; and send cute heart emoticon to their loved one by pressing it twice.
Connected to smartphones via Bluetooth, Smart Band notifies users of incoming calls, SMS•MMS, emails and SNS updates. In addition, users can locate their smartphones by using their Smart Band, and vice versa. For example, once activated, the Smart Band’s “Locate My Smartphone” feature turns on a bell sound on the user’s smartphone to help him/her locate the phone. Smart Band can also be used as a remote control to take pictures and selfies.
Smart Band helps users manage and enhance their health by providing daily fitness goals / suggestions depending on their physical condition, which is determined by tracking their activity (i.e. steps, distance, calories burned and active minutes), sleep quality/quantity, biorhythm and even daily horoscope. Users can check and adjust the daily goals via the Smart Band app installed on their smartphone. For instance, if the user has been working out too much and has not been sleeping well for a few days, the app will suggest that he/she reduce the amount of physical activities.
Smart Band can be charged using a triangular-shaped cradle. Its battery lasts up to seven days (or 168 hours) per charge. Also, when placed on the charging cradle, the band can be used as a table clock. The cradle is also built with a USB port to enable users to simultaneously charge their smartphone while charging their Smart Band.
Smart Band is affordable, priced at approximately USD 79. It will be first sold in Korea and plans are underway to export the product overseas.
Park Chol-soon, Senior Vice President and Head of Convergence Business Office said, “SK Telecom aims to lead the era of Internet of Things by introducing new types of Lifeware that offer innovative services by accurately analyzing each user’s physical conditions and needs.”
